We are a small animal practice established in North East England in 2000, with our main surgery located in Heaton, Newcastle upon Tyne and branch surgeries in Forest Hall, North Shields and Low Fell, Gateshead. Your pets are our priority and our skilled team of veterinarians and vet nurses are dedicated to providing the highest quality care for your animals.
Nick graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2016 and has worked at firstvets from June 2016. Veterinary medicine was his second degree after already studying Veterinary Bioscience, also at Glasgow. Nick has a keen interest in small animal surgery and neurology.
Nick can often be found cheering on his favourite football team, Chelsea. Just don’t ask him how the game was if they lost the previous day! He has a Border Collie cross Corgi called Caddy, although sadly for him, it is back home in Manchester with his parents.
Hester Cheuk BVM&S MRCVS
Hester Cheuk is Canadian born Chinese and graduated from Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies at the University of Edinburgh. She has passion for small animal and exotic surgery and medicine. She is also a keen supporter of wildlife conservation and environmental sustainability. She recently moved from Hong Kong to the North East.
In her free time Hester enjoys the Northumberland countryside, travelling the world. Hula hooping and Power Yoga is her choice of sport. She is proud to be an active member of the community through running DJ nights in Newcastle that promote diversity, charities and open minded music.
She looks forward to supporting the bond between you and your pet.
Judith Brown BVM&S MRCVS
Senior Veterinary Surgeon Forest Hall
Judith qualified from Edinburgh Vet School in 1993. She has a great interest in rabbits and is somewhat of our resident rabbit guru.
Rachel Elliot BVMS MRCVS
Rachel graduated from the University of Glasgow’s School of Veterinary Medicine in July 2016 and moved down South to join us here at firstvets. She has a keen interest in internal medicine among other aspects of the job, but most of all, loves getting to know all of your pets and stealing a cuddle! Being away from her family in Glasgow means less time spent with the family pets, which include two Ragdolls; Elvis and Enzo.
Outside of work her main interests include travelling and motorsports, both of which she enjoys with her other half – especially the moto GP. On the weekend Rachel often drives back to Glasgow to spend time with family and friends. She is loving being in the North East due to everyone being so friendly and welcoming, and is never short of things to do here. Looking forward to meeting you all!
